Alexander John Villanueva, also known as AJ, had dreams of making it big in the music industry. He thought graduating with honors from the Philippines’ top university would make his dreams come true. He soon found out that God had bigger plans for him. While teaching a church music course at a Bible college, God impressed on AJ a desire to equip church musicians, not just with skill but also with the right theology. But he had already set his eyes on a different direction, one that would fulfill his dreams for himself. AJ’s plan after getting his undergraduate degree was to go abroad and study with a virtuoso teacher, as was the practice for classical musicians. He applied to study overseas three times, and three times, he was rejected.
